My First Mosh Pit

I had a somewhat eventful weekend. I lost my debit card last Thursday, so I've been trying to sort all of that out. I haven't called the bank to cancel it yet, and according to my online statement, there haven't been any unauthorized charges (knock on wood). I think I left it at the IHC. I called over there and no one there has seen it. I'll probably call the bank tomorrow to cancel the card and get a new one.

Speaking of IHC, I went and saw my doctor on Thursday. He didn't really tell me what was wrong with me, but he's going to make me an appointment with an allergist, and he gave me some nose spray (the addictive kind, yay!) and some allergy medication.

Stuart and I went to the X96 Big A-- Show on Saturday. My first concert ever. I was actually in a mosh pit for about 2 minutes. It was an experience I hope to never have again, but I'm glad that I've done it at least once. The bands sounded okay, but the one band I really wanted to see (Unwritten Law) sounded awful. I don't think anybody can ever sound as good on stage as they do in the recording studio. It just can't be done. I had a lot of fun, and the ticket was only eleven bucks, so for ten bands it was certainly worth the money.

Eventful Week

A lot has happened since the last time I wrote. First, let me say that my grandmother is doing fine. She was released from the hospital yesterday, and with some home care therapy and the like, she should be able to make a complete recovery from the stroke. I'm sure she is grateful for all of your prayers on her behalf.

Second, I got a package in the mail on Thursday that guarantees I'm the nerdiest (is that a word?) person any of you know. It's a Targus Portable Stowaway Keyboard for my Handspring Visor Prism. Basically it's a full-size keyboard that folds in four sections down to only slightly larger that my Visor. I have already used it to write a paper for my Spanish class whilst I was sitting in the Crimson Underground (a food-court-like area on the lower floor of the University Union Building). I've got a Word Processor program on my Visor called Documents To Go. It allows me to sync all my documents up with Microsoft Word. So I'll be able to print my paper out at home and turn it in on Wednesday! Slick. :)

Stuart is now working with me at ContentWatch. He interviewed two Tuesdays ago and was hired last Friday. He started this last Tuesday, and is catching on fast. There's a considerable chunk of information to digest before you can really start answering support questions, but I'm confident that in no time at all he'll be answering just about any question a customer can throw at him. He has since quit his job at 5 Buck Pizza. Of course, "quit" may be a word that deserves further scrutiny (but I'll leave that discussion for another day!).

And last but not least, last weekend I had four (count 'em—4!) bloody noses in four days. I'm going to try to make an appointment with my Primary Care Physician on Monday. They probably won't be able to get me in 'till the end of the week, but I need to go. I've had a sore throat off and on for the past three or four weeks, and lately I've had a lot of congestion in my nose and/or sinuses. I think my nose is just dry, but a good friend suggested that I might need to have an artery cauterized up there somewhere. Yikes. Anyway, I've been sleeping with a humidifier at night, and Janene gave me some saline nose spray (nothing addictive, darnit), which seems to be moistening up my nose quite well. Hopefully I don't have something seriously wrong with me, but that remains to be seen.

Grandma Day in the Hospital

My grandmother went into the hospital last weekend. Apparently she suffered a minor stroke. The hospital had a CAT scan done, and depending on the results they were going to life flight her to a different hospital (she lives in a very small town about two hours away from any major medical facilities). Fortunately, the tests didn't show anything, so they didn't have to do that. From what I've heard up to this point she is recovering and will probably be released very soon.

My grandma's getting very old, and she keeps saying that she is ready to go. I think if it came down to it, she probably wouldn't fight it. I'm having trouble deciding whether I'm okay with that or not. I don't want her to die, but I imagine if I were in her position I would probably feel the same way.

My calculator came in the mail last Friday. I figured out how to get all the programs out of my old calculator into the new one, and I've been downloading software for it. Having not even touched one before buying (I did all my shopping online), I was somewhat nervous that I might not like it. So far, however, I've been very impressed with it, and expect it to serve me well through the rest of my college years, and, hopefully, the rest of my life (my dad still uses the programmable calculator he bought in college!).

America Remembers

I took my car in Monday to have new brakes put in (they were making an awful scraping noise), and to see what could be done about my "random multiple-cylinder misfires". They replaced the brakes, but the guy said he didn't even want to touch the other problem. He said he had another Stratus come in with identical symptoms, and replacing the plugs, the wires, and the distributor didn't fix a thing. So I made an appointment with the local Dodge Service Center. They said they had a few ideas, but if they can't fix it I don't have any idea what I'll do. I'm just praying that whatever happens it will all turn out for the better.

I can't believe it's been a year. It was really weird to walk through the Student Union Building today. I walk through it every day, but today was different because that's where I was when I first found out what was going on exactly one year ago today. The marching band played a selection of patriotic songs this afternoon in front of the Union building, and then there was a little presentation and memorial thingy. It was good to sit back and listen to the patriotic songs that we've all heard a million times, and just think about everything that's happened over the past year.

I don't want to drive this point into the ground—I'm sure everyone has heard enough today—but I do want to at least express my gratitude to a loving Heavenly Father, who has put in a lot of overtime to comfort and support all those who were affected in any way by those tragic events. He is a faithful God, and although He will not always come to our aid on the earthly battlefield (at least in the ways we would want Him to), if we will but ask He will rescue us on every spiritual battlefield. May God continue to bless our country, our leaders, and the American people. This is my prayer.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I had a great birthday on Wednesday. If you forgot about it, that's okay. I didn't remind anyone because I really didn't want people making a big deal out of it. It was a rather quiet birthday spent with close friends and family, and I really did enjoy myself.

Lava Lamp

Janene's family gave me a Lava Lamp for my birthday. Just what I've always wanted! I've placed it on my desk at work so I can show it off. It is very relaxing.

Janene is doing great. She had an appointment with her doctor yesterday and he gave her a clean bill of health. He says her recovery is one of the best he's ever seen. She's still experiencing some pain and discomfort (especially when she swallows!), but is no longer taking the pain pills because they make her awfully drowsy and non-functional.

Again, we are grateful for all of your support and prayers. I'm confident that God has blessed Janene with this swift recovery as a direct result of your prayer and faith on her behalf. I also want to thank Heavenly Father. Without Him we would be so hopeless and lost on this little ball of dust. He is amazing in His willingness to bless us with everything we have, including and especially the opportunity to live with Him someday.

No More Tonsils

Janene's surgery was a success. There weren't any complications, and she is recovering well, if not somewhat slowly. She's very cute right now, curled up in a little ball on her parents' huge water-bed. She has trouble talking so it comes out as a cute little squeek. What amazes me is the attitude she has toward everyone around her. She has every right to be in a miserable mood being in as much pain as she is, but she is still smiling (although somewhat weakly because her mouth is sore!). She is a beautiful person and I am grateful to know her. Sweetheart: Get well soon. I love you!

My parents are helping me buy a new calculator for my birthday. I decided to go with the Hewlett-Packard 49g. I couldn't find it at any local office supply stores, so I decided to order it online. I found a great deal at Amazon.com, and my new calculator should be arriving sometime between the 5th and the 11th of September. In the meantime, I'm using the emulator to do my homework.
