Powell's Presentation

Colin Powell gave a presentation to the U.N. on Wednesday providing U.S. Intelligence evidence that Iraq is still harboring weapons. You can read the story here as provided by Reuters News.

Most of the articles I've read don't seem to go into much detail as to the actual evidence presented, but I tend to believe the U.S. government must have some pretty convincing stuff on Iraq or President Bush wouldn't be making such a big stink about it. I personally wonder if Bush isn't going a little bit overboard with the whole issue, but I definately wouldn't want to let World War III happen and have U.S. Intelligence come out and say "I told you so" to the rest of the world.

I think a lot of people are skeptical to the point where they want more time to find out if Iraq really is harboring these weapons. However, the longer we let this go and the more we "trust" Iraq, the closer we are coming to what could be really catastrophic. The facts clearly show that Saddam isn't exactly cooperating. If he doesn't have these weapons, he needs to realize that his lack of cooperation is really making him look bad to the rest of the world. He needs to step up or he'll be taken out of office faster than he realizes.

I think a lot of people who are all against the war (cough cough... democrats... cough cough :)... actually I am kinda liberal myself for a republican) are only arguing that we shouldn't go to war because "Bush is only doing it to promote him and his campaign". At first this kinda made sense, obviously it wasn't the whole truth but maybe there was some partial truth in it all.

However, then I started to think. If you were to change that phrase just a little, it makes more sense. "Hussein is only doing it to promote him and his campaign". There are a whole bunch of resources that back this claim up, with a simple biography of him coming in at #1. Saddam came to power through war-like means (assasination, conspiracy, etc etc...), I don't understand why all these people are bent on making it look like Bush's war.

I was convinced before Powell's presentation that military action would be necessary. I wasn't able to watch it on the t.v. but I did scan through it online, and have read several articles about it.

I suppose another thing to think about is what exactly Bush is saying about Saddam. 12 years ago he signed a treaty saying that he would destroy all sorts of bad stuff, and to this day he hasn't given conclusive evidence that he has done this. The treaty he signed also stated that "serious" action would be taken if he failed to do so. I think all the people claiming that they need to give the inspectors more time should rethink what more time actually means. He hasn't gotten rid of them in the past 12 years, what makes them think he will do it now?
