War in Iraq: Opinions

I read two Opinion articles in the Trib yesterday that I really liked.

FRIEDMAN: Little Domestic Support for Iraq Action
SAFIRE: Irrefutable and Undeniable Evidence

Give 'em a look and tell me what you think.

I think the question to ask first, is how does everyone (or anyone) feel about the "war" on Iraq? We are a fairly conservative group and so I feel that we all stand a little behind Bush. but how much?

Would you be willing to go over there and point a gun at another man (who is probably just as scared as you are) and pull the trigger? War is a horrible thing, but there are some things that are worse. I think that a country being run by a tyranical (spelling?) leader with a violent past is one of those things that is worse. The first article hit that pretty much on the nose, talking about how he treats his people. I am sure you could browse the net for a minute or two and find plenty of stories about the things he has done to his people.

But... it all comes down to what the second article talks about. Would you be willing to do it (or in the case of you parents... send your son to go do it)? Personally, I would consider it an honor to serve my country. If I didn't have so much going on right now (school, wife, etc...) I would probably join up, but I just don't think that I can give up those things yet. (however, if a draft comes up and it looks bad... it would probably be worth the money to sign up first). I just don't know how many people are ready to do that.

With the world growing smaller (through media) it seems that people have lost a lot of pride in our country. There are a whole bunch of things that we all take for granted everyday. blah blah. I will go off on this some other time though.

eh?
