UPC Technology Chair?

I'm applying to be the Union Programming Council Technology Chair up at the University. The UPC organizes most of the events and activities that happen in and around the Union building. The Technology Chair is in charge of designing and maintaining the Union website (www.union.utah.edu) and keeping the UPC computers in good running condition.

I spent most of yesterday typing up a cover letter and a resume. It isn't due until Wednesday, March 5, but I think I'll turn it in on Monday. As far as I know there is no one else applying for the position, and I have the recommendation of the current Technology Chair. I don't want to get my hopes up all the way, but I am fairly certain I'll get the position.

As confident as I am, I would still like to ask everyone to pray for me. Please pray first of all that I will be able to get the job, and second that I will be able to live up to the expectations of the UPC and the Union staff. Thanks!

I started thinking about it today, and I realized I actually have five years of web design experience under my belt. I designed my first page back in 1998, using Microsoft Publisher. Boy was that crappy. It was located at geocities.com/heartland/1004 (it has since become geocities.com/elderday). It existed primarily to let my friends and family know how I was doing out in the mission field, and was updated regularly by my mother. (If you visit the site, you'll notice that it still erroneously points to Qangaroo.com. This is because I've deactivated the 'elderday' Yahoo account. Since the account is dead, I honestly don't know why the site is still up.)

My second website was created after my mission. It was located at geocities.com/qangaroo. It included all of my mission archives, plus new information about me and my life after my mission. It was the beginnings of this site, and included primitive versions of the 'About Me', 'Friends', 'Pets', 'Computers', and 'Music' pages. It would be fun to dig that site out and post it here for old times sake, eh?

My third site was located at Qangaroo.com This site has since been retired. I still own the domain, but I don't plan to renew my ownership when the registration runs out this coming June. At first it was just a port from my geocities.com/qangaroo website, but one day back in February I started a new section (which later became the home page) where I kept a daily journal. Back when I started, I had no idea there was an entire weblog/journal community. In fact, I actually thought I may have been one of the first to come up with such an idea. :duh

Now that I'm a Pre-Computer Science major, I have a website on the CS server, located at eng.utah.edu/~jday, which never had much on it. And now, of course, I'm the proud owner and webmaster of both JoeyDay.com and The Forum.

In addition to designing and maintaining my own websites for the past five years, I've answered a lot of questions my brother-in-law, Steve, has had while designing his websites, Fixapicture.com and home.byu.net/~sph27, and I've been instrumental in creating the University of Utah Union website, located at www.union.utah.edu.

Kristen, you posted an entry on the forum once, didn't you?

The difference is you can't post entries on this site. This site is my personal journal, and only Janene and I can add a new entry.

The Forum is a place where everyone can discuss whatever is on their mind. I've tried to set it up mostly as a place for discussing current events, politics, etc. There are currently 12 people who have logins for adding new entries to The Forum, but only about three of us are regularly doing so (which doesn't bother me, because most of the others are at least commenting).

Does this make sense? Let me know if you are still confused...

Ummm... yessssss "designing." :duh

Wishing you luck Joey on the position!

I am confused though... what is the difference between the forum and this site?? :? I didn't even know there were posts over there.
